Delmarva Community Services, Inc. (formerly
Dorchester Developmental Unit, Inc.) is a multi-service agency dedicated
to helping people who wish to maintain an independent lifestyle
within the community. Independence is often hindered by developmental
or physical disabilities, advanced age, or a lack of family support.
Delmarva Community Services, Inc. is a private, non-profit agency
that depends upon funds from federal and state grants and from private
donations. All gifts are tax deductible.
The
Agency was established in 1974 to offer persons with developmental
disabilities an opportunity to expand horizons through education,
training, and employment. A residential program was started to allow
clients to live within the community supported by trained staff.
The Agency grew to include the county wide transportation system,
Respite Care, Adult Day Care programs and Senior Assisted Housing.
In 1989, the agency began operating the Dorchester Senior Program,
a division of MAC, Inc. In July 1998, the Agency moved into its
new multipurpose service center in Cambridge and opened its new
transit site in July 1999.
