Contrary to this thought, individuals with limited savings, credit issues, and previous rental issues, can possibly secure financing with the guidance of trained financial and real estate professionals. These experts are joining forces on COACH Day to help empower citizens and assist in the navigation of the home buying process. Agencies such as the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD), and the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) will participate along with local lending institutions, brokers and real estate agents to initiate working relationships with anyone who wants to buy a home.
The October 18th ‘COACH’ Day Workshop, which starts at 9:30am at Dorchester Community Service’s Community Action Center located at 1000 Goodwill Avenue, is perfect for individuals who ever considered purchasing a home or, simply want to learn more. The COACH workshop offers three 45-minute breakout sessions, beginning at 10:30am. The first one offers information about DHCD financing programs, including those specifically targeting the Cambridge community. The next, starting at 11:15am, can provide guidance to “Tune up your Financial Picture”. This discussion will center on the appropriate steps necessary to get personal finances and credit in order to be able to purchase a home. Finally, at Noon, a panel of professionals will talk about the home purchasing process and entertain questions from those in attendance. The time allotted for one-on-one consultations with the various professionals is an invaluable opportunity to prepare to become a successful homeowner.
Representatives from BB&T, DHCD, Delmarva Community Services, Habitat for Humanity Choptank, National Bank of Cambridge, Oyster Mortgage Company, Provident State Bank, Talbot Bank and USDA are among the resources that will be available to discuss various mortgage options, with some offering to pre-qualify serious candidates. Real estate agents from the Mid-Shore Board of Realtors will provide information and photos of houses available for sale in the area.
The third of its kind, COACH Day is a collaborative effort initiated by the City of Cambridge through it’s Maple Street Program with participating partners Delmarva Community Services, Habitat for Humanity Choptank, and Cambridge Rental, LLC.
