The Respite Program helps caregivers get a break from the care they provide for a loved one.  The hours can be used when the caregiver has an appt or vacation, shopping, etc.  Caregivers are reimbursed if they are paying out of pocket for respite care and qualify for the program.  All programs require an application.  Please contact the Respite office to see if you qualify.  There are 4 programs that help those who are taking care of a loved one.  National Family Caregivers Support Program, Functionally Disabled Respite program, and 2 grants for those who are Developmentally Disabled.

National Family Caregivers Support Program serves caregivers caring for an older adult who is 60 or older, or a relative who is 55 or older taking care of a disabled child or grandchild.  This program is open to caregivers in Dorchester County.  Referrals are made to those who reside in other counties to the appropriate agency in their county.  The program offers $500 reimbursement with limited reimbursement for supplemental services as well.  There is no income requirement for this program.  The program runs October 1-September 30.

Functionally Disabled Respite Program serves caregivers in 7 counties of the Eastern Shore.  Caroline, Cecil, Dorchester, Kent, Queen Anne’s, Somerset, Talbot.  This is for someone who has a severe chronic disability.  The program is a sliding scale based on the applicant’s income.  Contact the office for more information.  This program runs from July 1-June 30.

Developmentally Disabled Respite Program serves caregivers taking care of someone disabled usually from birth in 9 counties of the Eastern Shore.  Caroline, Cecil, Dorchester, Kent, Queen Anne’s, Somerset, Talbot, Wicomico, and Worcester.  There are 2 grants for this program.  Contact the office for more information.  These programs run July 1-June 30.
